The Old Parcels Office Artspace

Scarborough – ERDF

Scarborough Studios Ltd

In 2013, Scarborough Studios Limited successfully completed an extensive scheme of external repair works to restore the grade II listed Old Parcels Office building at Scarborough Station.  This enabled limited use of the building which currently provides artist studio space, large flexible working and exhibition/events space.  However, the use of the Old Parcels Office remains severely restricted as there is currently no heating, light or toilet facilities which are essential to the future success of the renovated building.

This project is to create a warm, comfortable, accessible and welcoming space that will benefit artists who are looking for professionally run bespoke studios to develop as SMEs, local community groups and schools, some of whom have already used the space to exhibit their own work.  It will also benefit those people in the wider community who would like to experience good quality art teaching thus widening a skills base.

Touring exhibitions will be encouraged to use the building, which will benefit the local community who generally have to travel to larger cities to see work by international artists.  Its situation at the railway station will see visitors coming to events via rail – day trippers who will see Scarborough as a cultural destination.
