Let’s get SET (Skills and Employability Team)

Scarborough – ESF

Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education

Scarborough TEC (STEC) strongly believes that the best place to learn and support the most marginalised individuals is in the workplace. Scarborough TEC will accordingly create a Skills and Employability Team (SET) that will help residents who reside in the most deprived wards of Scarborough to acquire skills and behaviours required for employment. The project will build and strengthen the capacity of the local communities and businesses to respond to challenges of the rurality and coastal isolation, providing training places, placements and employability to 220 residents over 20 months, leading to 60 into employment, 20 into further job search and 73 into further training.

A newly created SET model (with 3 new dedicated Employability officers), will deliver additional localised support and introduce community outreach activities for people in the most deprived wards of the Scarborough. This will equip participants with knowledge and skills demanded by businesses in the Scarborough and will facilitate smooth ‘training-to-work’ transition after the completion of training activities.  Activities will include Apprenticeship/Employment matching and brokerage (target 32), Employability and transition of students (110 participants) and new adult pre-employment (targeting Early Years, Healthcare and the Visitor Economy), targeting 88 participants.

SET will coordinate and support engagement activities with the local businesses, JobCentre Plus Offices (JC+), local community organisations and Job Match etc.
